Three men are sentenced to 25 years in prison for attempted murder in Playa del Carmen

PLAYA DEL CARMEN.- The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE)through the Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Processesobtained a conviction of 25 years in prison against José Gilberto Mar Noh, alias “Beto”; Carlos Daniel Jiménez Reyes and Gabriel Alfonso Ortiz de la Cruz. The above due to his responsibility in the crime of attempted homicide to the detriment of a man whose identity remains confidential.

The events occurred in the Ejidal neighborhood

According to the investigation folder, the attack was recorded on the afternoon of January 20, 2023, in the Ejidal neighborhood of Playa del Carmen.

That day, the three convicted men were walking on 90th Avenue and 12th Street, when they approached the victim’s home with the intention of attacking him.

Upon arrival, José Gilberto Mar Noh extracted a weapon fire from between his clothes and threatened the man, warning him that he would deprive him of his life.

On a first attempt, the gun jammed; However, he managed to shoot a second time, wounding the victim in the left thigh.

Conclusive evidence during the oral trial

During the oral trial, the State Attorney General’s Office presented sufficient evidence to demonstratebeyond all reasonable doubt, the full responsibility of the accused.

The J.Oral Trial Judge evaluated each element presented and, after the evidence was reviewed, determined the conviction for the three involved.

The Prosecutor’s Office highlighted that the investigation made it possible to reconstruct the events. As well as supporting the accusation with testimonies, ballistic expert reports and medical opinions that confirmed the intention to deprive the victim of his life.

Economic sanction and reparation of damage

In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed on each of the sentenced a fine of 155 thousand 610 pesos. As well as the payment of 5,808.32 pesos to repair the material damage.
