He ate that to be fair, and finally the guy behind the “barbershop haircut that costs a quarter” TikTok meme sound has done a story time addressing the video and his vitality. The man, the myth and the legend is Kevin James Sievert – and his story is actually iconic.

Kevin James Sievert, a musical theatre actor and performer has finally given a lot of backstory and context to the viral video that’s gone crazy this year. Sievert says “This is long overdue. Hey internet. I’m going to give you a little bit of a story time. The video was recorded at Skylight Music Theatre back in 2019. Pre Covid. It was a professional production of Newsies. The cast had a mix of young performers – people primarily in high school. And adult professionals. I was one of the adult professionals in that production. I was 27 when I got that contract.”
This has actually GAGGED everyone in the comments, because we all thought he was a kid. Youthful king.
Sievert continued: “First or second day of rehearsal we are rehearsing with our music director. We were told the context of the song to give energy, and it comes to me and ‘a barbershop haircut that costs a quarter’ – that’s how I did that line for the rest of the contract.
“When my friend Sean recorded that video, that was a dress rehearsal. It was a piano tech which means there was no pit other than piano. So I was singing for the pit. And the rest is history.”
