Tom Holland’s comments in early August led to plenty of concern amongst Spider-Man and Marvel fans. While the longtime star of the Spider-Man franchise told GQ Magazine that he’ll “probably take a bit more time off in 2027,” it fueled speculation that Marvel may have to look for a new actor to play the popular role sooner than later.
Now, the latest update on Holland’s future as Peter Park is likely to intensify that speculation and concern a bit more. While Holland is currently filming the 2026 film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he’s had nothing but glowing reviews and excitement about reprising the role. None of that has changed, but he admitted his future outlook is an unknown.
Tom Holland Addresses Future as ‘Spider-Man’
In the eyes of many fans of the franchise, Holland has been the best Spider-Man actor to date. That opinion comes as extremely high praise, as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, specifically, each received strong reviews when stepping into the role.
However, the fan’s appreciation of Holland’s work as the superhero is what makes it so tough to consider the idea that it might be winding down. While Holland didn’t give a yes or no answer, he did address it during an interview with LADbible.
“In terms of my future in the character beyond this film, I don’t know the answer to that,” Holland said.
On a positive note, at least it doesn’t signal that he’s unquestionably, 100 percent finished with the role after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. On the flip side, it also won’t instill much optimism in fans holding out hope for at least one more movie from the 29-year-old actor.
Tom Holland Focused on What’s ‘in Front’ of Him, Jokes ‘Spider-Man’ Producers Were Sick of Him
During the same interview, before his comments directly about his future outlook as Spider-Man, Holland admitted he’s focused on the here and now. Specifically, he’s locked in on making Spider-Man: Brand New Day the best movie it can be, and not thinking about his future currently.
“I think with anything, it’s all about what’s in front of you, and right now what’s in front of us is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and focusing on making that movie worthy of the last film,” Holland said.
He added that he’s been utilizing the internet to understand what “fans want” from a Spider-Man movie, joking that producers were “absolutely sick” of him in pitch meetings.
“I have been actively sifting through the internet and trying to best understand what it is that the fans want from a Spider-Man movie, and that’s been my driving force in these pitch meetings,” he told LADbible.
“I think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me, but I think it’s really important, because we make these movies for [the fans].”
Regardless of Holland’s future plans to reprise the role of Spider-Man in solo movies or the Avengers series, one thing worth betting on is that fans are going to continue holding out hope that Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t the end of his time in the suit.
