Tom Holland wasn’t messing around when it came to his approach to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. After revealing that this film marked the first time that he was able to give creative feedback on the structure and plan for the movie, the 29-year-old actor took full advantage. And most importantly, from the sound of it, Marvel took Holland’s advice, which was built around what fans wanted, and ran with it.
During an interview with Esquire, Holland opened up about the process of doing “sneaky research online” and explained the aftermath of taking the ideas he pieced together to Marvel ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Tom Holland Believes Marvel Is Doing What Fans Want in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Holland gave a tip of the cap to fans for following his time as Spider-Man, admitting how badly he wants to give fans something that’s “really worth their time.” He also expressed his gratitude to the fans for their time invested in the franchise.
“For me, I want to do justice to Peter Parker’s character,” Holland said. “I want to bring the fans something that’s really worthy of their time, and I’m very grateful for their investment in our franchise. I don’t mean financially, I mean the time to go to the cinema three times. That’s a big ask.”
He then detailed how Marvel responded to the research he did about what fans really want from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it offered a bit of an exciting outlook for the 2026 movie.
“I did a lot of sneaky research online—looking at what people were saying in the interim between Spider-Man: No Way Home and now Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” Holland continued. “I really just kind of put together a vibe of what people were looking for and went to Marvel and said, ‘This is what I think we should be doing.’”
“And I think that’s exactly what we are doing. So it’s been a really fun process developing the movie. It’s the first time I’ve ever been allowed in that part of the process, and it’s definitely a stressful experience. But I think where we’ve got to, now that we’re shooting, we are shooting absolute gold.”
It’s hard not to get excited about Holland’s comments and the fact that Marvel took what he provided to heart. Obviously, anytime fans hear that one of their favorite movie franchises is “shooting absolute gold,” that has to be music to their ears.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
