Toyota is the latest auto manufacturer to implement a sweeping recall, and the order affects multiple brands and car models. Nearly 600,000 vehicles are being recalled after the company announced a severe malfunction with an important feature.
The recall spans models across the Toyota and Lexus brands, and multiple vehicle classes are also affected. Toyota says that the issue affecting the cars can result in drivers being unable to see important indicators for service or certain parts of the car needing repair or attention.
The company says the issue could cause drivers to lose access to things like vehicle speed, brake system and tire pressure warning lights – all of which can result in crashes or injuries.
A Serious Issue Prompts a Quick Recall
Toyota says that more than 591,377 vehicles are being recalled due to an issue with instrument panel displays. The displays can go blank before or while drivers are operating the car, leaving them blind to potential issues and in some cases, their current speed.
The 2023-2024 Venza, RAV 4 Prime, RAV 4, GR Corolla and Crown are included in the recall, as well as the 2024-2025 Lexus TX and LS and Toyota Tacoma and Grand Highlander. From the 2025 model year exclusively, the Lexus RX, Toyota Crown Signia, Camry, RAV 4 plug-in hybrid and 4 Runner have all been recalled.
“If malfunctions occur while driving, continuing to drive could lead to an increased risk of a crash or an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash,” the company said in a statement about the affected models.
Customers who own a car currently listed in the recall are advised to take the car to their dealerships. The instrument display panel software will be replaced free-of-charge for non-plug-in hybrid vehicles, while panels will be replaced or software updates will be implemented for plug-in hybrids.
25TB08 and 25TA08 are the Toyota numbers for the recall, while Lexus’ numbers are 25LB05 and 25LA05. Customers who own one of the affected vehicles will be notified officially by mid-November, but they can call the Toyota Brand Engagement Center or visit their local dealership.
Another Major Recall Looms
The Toyota recall isn’t the only major automotive recall currently affecting a large number of drivers. Hyundai has also recalled around 568,580 of its Palisade SUVs due to an issue with the car’s seat belts.
The belt buckles have had issues latching, which is extremely dangerous in crashes and other instances if drivers or passengers aren’t properly restrained.
Drivers and passengers have been instructed to quickly fasten their seatbelts in one motion until a fix is determined. They can take the cars to dealerships where the buckle mechanism will be examined, free of charge.
We’ll see how Toyota and Hyundai respond after issuing these widespread recalls for some of their most popular vehicles.
