In a direct dialogue exercise, the Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena held a meeting with representatives of the hotel sector Montejo Walkwho presented a series of proposals to modify roads that currently generate complications for visitors and motorists in Merida.
During the meeting, the state president reiterated his commitment to maintaining a open and constructive communication with all productive sectors, recognizing that joint work is key to improving urban mobility and strengthen tourism in Yucatán.
“I am very pleased that we can carry out this talk. I thank Juan José Martín Pacheco and Jorge Carrillo Sáenz. Both of them had already told me about this problem, and that is why I spoke with the secretaries present here: with Dario FleetTourism; Alaine López BricenoInfrastructure; and the secretary Luis Felipe Saidén Ojeda, of Public Security, for the possibility of holding this meeting and speaking with complete openness about this topic. We all want our Paseo de Montejo to shine as well as possible. There will be subsequent opportunities to present ideas that give it more life and attract more visitors,” said the governor.
Díaz Mena pointed out the importance of analyzing the proposals from all angles, not only from the hotel perspectivebut also considering the vision of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP), the Incay and other entities involved.
The objective, he said, is to build a first comprehensive approach that allows improve mobility, tourist attraction and the citizen experience on Paseo de Montejo.
High vehicular traffic in Montejo
In his speech, the president of the Mexican Association of Hotels in Yucatán (AMHY), Juan José Martín Pachecopointed out that Montejo Walk It has become an avenue with high vehicular traffic, affecting the operation of hotels and service to visitors.
“When they go to pick up tourists for walks or tours during excursions in the mornings or afternoons, this has generated a series of problems and complaints from the service providers, and that is why we made this call, and today we are all here because we are really very concerned,” he explained.
He highlighted that the reduction of spaces for promotions and descents makes the logistics of tourist transfers difficult and affects the experience of visitors, which is why we seek to work in a coordinated manner with the authorities to propose solutions that improve mobility on this emblematic avenue in Mérida.
The president of the Yucatán Tourism Business Council (And so on), Jorge Carrillo Sáenzthanked the space for dialogue that allowed them to express the concerns and impacts faced by businesses located on Paseo de Montejo.
He raised the need to develop a comprehensive project for this important road that consolidates it as a top-level tourist product. He pointed out thatThe avenue is one of the main attractions of Mérida, but that the experience of visitors and locals is affected by mobility problems.
The business leader also proposed reactivating the Road Councilheaded by the Ministry of Public Security, as a mechanism to address the daily problems that arise on the avenue, improve mobility and strengthen the tourist experience in this emblematic space of the city.
The Government of the Mayan Renaissance will keep the channels of dialogue and coordination open with the hotel and business sector, with the purpose of thoroughly analyzing the proposals presented and following up on the agreements reached.
Within this framework, new work meetings will be scheduled to define joint strategies aimed at optimize mobility, strengthen urban development and consolidate the tourist vocation from Paseo de Montejo and the city of Mérida.
Present at the meeting were the head of the Yucatan Public Security Secretariat (SSP), Luis Felipe Saidén Ojeda; the Secretary of Infrastructure for Wellbeing (SIB), Alaine López Briceño; the Secretary of Tourism Development (Sefotur), Darío Flota Ocampo; the general director of the Yucatán Highway Infrastructure Institute (Incay), Ángel Pérez Medrano; the head of the Traffic Engineering Department of the SSP, Gerardo Ojeda Sosa; and the technical director of Incay, David Laines Tolosa.
On behalf of the hoteliers of Paseo de Montejo, the director of the Hotel Victoria, Ricardo Elías Dájer Nahum, attended; the general manager of the Fiesta Americana Mérida Hotel, Mónica Melgarejo Mora; the manager of the Kavia Premium Hotel, Gabriela Hadad Díaz; and the general manager of the Hotel Español Paseo de Montejo and representative of Grupo Kavia, Pamela Bojórquez Cándila.
In addition, the general manager of Hotel Rosas & Xocolate, Karina Medina Beltrán; the director of the El Conquistador Hotel, Jaime Yama Noh; and the general manager of the Holiday Inn Mérida Paseo de Montejo Hotel, Pamela Gual Orozco.
