Josh Duhamel is ready to take on doomsday, and no, we don’t mean he’s announcing a part in Marvel’s next project.

The Transformers star revealed earlier this year that he has a ‘doomsday cabin’ built to withstand a world-ending event, should the worst come to pass.

‘Well, I have enough,’ Josh, 52, told People in an update on his Minnesota sanctuary. ‘Not 100 per cent. Probably 70 per cent.’

Despite living off the grid as much as possible, the Ransom Canyon star admitted his hunting skills need sharpening as the cans of food won’t last forever.

‘I could be a better hunter, I could be a better fisherman,’ he added. ‘I could stockpile a little more food supply.’

The cabin was built by Josh over a 15-year span, placed around 40 miles (64km) from the nearest shops.

He revealed to Parade previously that he was grateful for the space to ‘get back to basics’, away from all the demands of modern life.

‘Once we get there, it’s really about everybody taking care of each other – making memories, spending time with family and friends,’ the Las Vegas actor shared.

‘You’re not consumed by all these other distractions. When you’re out there, it’s really about having fun, making sure everybody’s warm, everybody’s got food and water.’

The actor shares the home — which is over an hour from Fargo, North Dakota — with wife Audra Mari and their son Shepherd, one, plus Josh’s 11-year-old son Axl who he shares with ex-wife and singer Fergie.

While he was building the cabin, the family lived without basic amenities like running water and electricity for ‘a long time’.

Josh continued to People that although he enjoys making movies and TV shows, he felt he had a ‘calling’ to make things with his hands.

He rose to fame as a model and in music videos before starring as Leo Du Pres in the long-running American soap opera All My Children between 1999 and 2002.

In the early 00s, he then pivoted towards the film industry, eventually starring in the Transformers franchise and teen romcom Love Simon.

Josh’s home is an escape from ‘this world of massive technology’ his day job exists in, but was never initially intended to be a doomsday bunker.

‘The truth is, yes, people want to call it a doomsday prepper thing, but it’s really not that,’ Josh said. ‘I’m really more of a guy who wants to stay true to my roots, get back to the basics, hone whatever basic skills I need.

‘I don’t think that we’re in any dire situation that we have to worry about prepping for doomsday, but it is good to have some of those skills.

‘I was getting so far away from it for so long, that I felt like I wanted to get back to some of that.’
