Tributes have been pouring in following the passing of the United Independent Movement (UIM) leader, Neil De Beer.
The political party described him as a remarkable soul and a beacon of hope and love.
The Democratic Alliance (DA), ActionSA, the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) are also in mourning.
UIM MOURNS LEADER
The UIM shared that De Beer’s courage during hardship and his relentless dedication to the betterment of others will be remembered.
“We are grateful for having walked beside him, for the laughter shared and the lessons learned. The void he leaves is undeniable, yet within our pain lies a deep gratitude for the precious gift of his friendship and leadership,” the party wrote.
POLITICAL PARTIES REMEMBER NEIL DE BEER
The DA described De Beer as a member and a positive voice of reason in the Cape Town Council. The party shared that the UIM president was a reliable partner committed to stable coalitions.
DA leader John Steenhuisen said: “With his uncompromising and often confrontational style, he upset many, but he also spoke for many. His convictions and fearless personality made him a force to be reckoned with.”
ActionSA extended sympathies to De Beer’s family, friends, and loved ones.
“We will remember Neil as someone who was never afraid to speak his mind. He was forthright in areas of agreement and equally candid in expressing differences, a quality of honesty and fearlessness that made him stand out and will remain a defining part of his legacy,” the party said.
The ACDP also paid tribute, saying De Beer’s unwavering support will never be forgotten. The party described him as a visionary leader who fought corruption on every platform and consistently championed justice and transparency.
