It’s always fascinating who is the most followed queen in history on Instagram when it comes to RuPaul’s Drag Race – and it’s always been dominated by huge players with barely any shift. After season six of Drag Race really pushed the show further into the mainstream than ever before, a lot of the queens saw huge boosts to their social media platform. Several of the alumni from the show have held the title of most followed queen on Instagram at various points, but notably – Trixie Mattel has been the most followed Drag Race queen on Instagram for the past five years and no one thought she’d ever be dethroned. However, it’s 2025 – and now a queen has overtaken her for the first time in HALF A DECADE. Here’s what’s happened.
All hail the new top spot taker!
Trixie Mattel has been the holder of the top spot of the most followed Drag Race queen on Instagram since 2019, and it’s easy to see why. Trixie is popular in so many forms – both with everything she does with Katya and with her YouTube channel, makeup brand and spin off show Trixie Motel. Trixie has a very impressive 4.3 million Instagram followers, but she’s been dethroned now by Plastique Tiara who clocks in at 4,338,245. Trixie is at 4,301,207 at the time of publication.

In recent years, Plastique has found a huge audience away from the typical Drag Race crowd who are constantly getting her to go viral with her very impressive content regarding her boy to girl drag transformation.
Who previously has been the most followed?
After season six, both Adore Delano and Bianca Del Rio had held the title. Trixie Mattel eventually overtook Bianca and held the title for five years. I never thought anyone else could take over the spot!
What about RuPaul!?!?
Well, no one’s touching mother. RuPaul has 5.8 million followers and no one’s coming close. But, Ru isn’t the most followed Drag Race queen ever – that title goes to Pabllo Vittar who is huge in South America. Pabllo Vittar has a 12.8 million strong following on Instagram. Beyond wow!
