The White House said – Thursday – that US President Donald Trump will meet his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, next week as part of an Asian tour, thus confirming the date of the meeting, about which doubts arose following the escalation of trade tension between the two countries.
White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt told reporters that Trump will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, scheduled to be held on October 31 and November 1 in South Korea.
She indicated that the US President will head to Malaysia late Friday evening, and will also visit Japan and South Korea, where he will meet Xi next Thursday.
“On Thursday morning local time, President Trump will participate in a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, before returning to the country,” Levitt added.
Trump is scheduled to meet Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim next Sunday, new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo on Tuesday, and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in Busan on Wednesday.
