Donald Trump will not ‘waste’ time meeting Vladimir Putin unless it was clear that the Kremlin leader is serious about a ceasefire in Ukraine.
After introducing new sanctions on Russia, the US president is scrapping the idea of a US-Russia summit in Budapest – and abandoning a meeting with the Kremlin leader.
He told reporters aboard Air Force One as he headed to Asia: ‘I m going to have to know that we are going to make a deal. I’m not going to be wasting my time.
‘I’ve always had a great relationship with Vladimir Putin, but this has been very disappointing.’
