Trump orders the Pentagon to resume nuclear weapons testing news

US President Donald Trump said that the United States will resume testing its nuclear weapons arsenal “immediately,” without providing additional details.

This comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier on Wednesday that Moscow had successfully tested a Russian underwater drone capable of carrying nuclear warheads, in defiance of Washington’s warnings.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform before his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, “Due to the testing programs carried out by other countries, I have directed the Department of War to begin testing our nuclear weapons on an equal footing,” indicating that the tests will resume immediately.

Putin announced yesterday, Wednesday, that his country had successfully tested a high-powered nuclear-powered torpedo of the “Poseidon” model, days after he announced a successful test of a cruise missile powered by nuclear propulsion.

Putin explained – in statements he made during his visit to wounded soldiers in a hospital in Moscow – that the test was conducted on Tuesday, and that the torpedo achieved a “brilliant success,” noting that its power exceeded the Sarmat intercontinental missile, and that “there is no way to intercept it.”

“Poseidon” – according to the little information published about it – is described as a self-guided torpedo capable of creating radioactive waves in the oceans to make coastal cities uninhabitable, and Moscow says that it operates with nuclear propulsion and can carry nuclear warheads.

A source in the Russian military industrial complex said in statements previously reported by the official TASS news agency that the “Poseidon” torpedo is capable of operating at depths of more than one kilometer and at speeds ranging between 60 and 70 knots.

These developments come in light of escalating tensions between Moscow and Washington, as Russia continues to develop its nuclear military capabilities, while the United States maintains a firm stance towards any potential threats to its national security and the security of its allies.
