The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Thursday that he will meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in Budapest, Hungary, with the aim of seeking a solution to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
According to the North American President, high-level teams from both countries are expected to meet next week to prepare for the meeting. The United States delegation will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, although the location of the meeting has not yet been defined.
In the publication, Trump revealed that Putin congratulated him, as well as the United States, on the “great achievement of peace in the Middle East”, something that the Russian President described as “a dream of centuries”. The North American leader says he believes that this agreement “could help in negotiations to reach an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine”.
The two leaders will also have discussed the future of trade relations between the two countries, to be resumed “when the war in Ukraine ends”. After the preparatory meetings, Trump and Putin are expected to meet in person in the Hungarian capital. “I hope the meeting will help us put an end to this inglorious war between Russia and Ukraine”wrote the North American President.
Trump added that he will receive Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this Friday at the White House to discuss the conversation with Putin “and much more”.
