Reader says local ranting ‘old guy’ has been reincarnated as Donald Trump
Years ago, in the local pub at the end of our street in Belfast, there was an old guy who parked himself in one of the snugs and loudly berated everyone within spitting distance in the surrounding area.
No one escaped his onslaught: the landlord, the milkman, the cornershop owner, the women at the hairdresser’s. Not even the lazy labrador sleeping by the lamppost.
Barney, as he was known, showed no mercy with his rants, until he was carried out – slightly sozzled – and calm was restored.
At the United Nations in New York on Tuesday, the ghost of Barney leaned on the lectern and released his tirade in the form of Donald Trump. Again, no one was spared.
Pity that no one attempted to carry him out so that calm sanity could return. Steve, Harrow
Reader draws parallel between Trump’s paracetamol comments and claims on Covid cure
Donald Trump has suggested thatparacetamol is a potential cause of autism (Metro, Wed).
Is this the same Donald Trump who suggested in 2020 that Covid could be cured by injecting disinfectant? Alan Meadowcroft, Royton
Trump gets a history lesson from reader
In his lecture at the UN, Trump said: ‘Europe is in serious trouble. They’ve been invaded by a force of illegal aliens like nobody’s ever seen before.’
He seems to have forgotten his American history (if he ever knew it). His forebears almost wiped out the indigenous population after they entered as illegal aliens. Yvonne, Newcastle
Reader says Ed Davey’s speech relied on a ‘deluge of criticisms’
Got a question about UK politics?
Send in yours and Metro’s Senior Politics Reporter Craig Munro will answer it in an upcoming edition of our weekly politics newsletter. Email alrightgov@metro.co.uk or submit your question here.

I listened to Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey’s speech at his party’s conference in Bournemouth (Metro, Wed) and was annoyed by his presentation.
If only he had spoken of his new policies instead of relying on a deluge of criticism of the other parties – in particular, denigrating Nigel Farage and his Reform UK party.
By focusing the majority of his speech on this, he resorted to the lowest level of politics. Molly Neville, Sheffield
Is Davey getting shaky?
Why is Ed Davey so obsessed with Nigel Farage and Reform UK? Do you think that he is worried? ‘Yes’ is the answer. John Nightingale, South Redbridge
Reader who is a working immigrant ‘feels like a scapegoat’ for Farage
Regarding Nigel Farage’s vow that hundreds of thousands of migrants living and working legally in the UK will be deported if Reform win power (Metro Mon).
His comments are careless and belittle hard-working immigrants who fairly pay taxes and rarely rely on free public services.
As a working immigrant who pays taxes and has never used the NHS, I feel like a scapegoat being tossed around by politicians to gain votes.
I didn’t expect someone of Farage’s stature to express or support such disparaging opinions. Miles, London

Do people feeling the Autumn chill need ‘medical intervention’?
John Bradley, (MetroTalk, Tue) says he has been wearing two pullovers to work since mid-August and is now also wearing two scarves.
He obviously needs medical intervention if he feels that cold. Since June, I’ve been going out for a walk in the park most days of the week wearing shorts and a polo shirt. If I wore anything heavier, I would be too hot and sweaty.
I do realise that shortly I will need to start wearing long trousers and possibly long-sleeve tops, but not for the moment. It’s not cold yet. Alfie Mullin, West London
Reader warns against reading recipes in the morning
I love Vicky Chandler’s mouth-watering recipes and always read them after my lunch so as not to feel too hungry.
However, on Wednesday I mistakenly started to read her ‘Healthy meals to make – in minutes’ in the morning.
Thank you for making me hungry early in the day, Vicky! Samuel, Tooting
Reader points out the England men’s rugby team got into the semi-final six years ago
Neil Dance (MetroTalk, Tue) says England’s women’s rugby team – the Red Roses – have ‘once again shown the men how it’s done’ by reaching Saturday’s final of the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
Get your facts right, Neil! England’s men were most recently in the Rugby World Cup final in 2019.
Well done to the ladies, though! John, Streatham
