TV fans ‘have goosebumps’ over Better Call Saul reunion in wildly mysterious new show

Better Call Saul fans have gone wild over the latest cast reunion for a new ‘gender-bending’ new TV show.

Vince Gilligan, who was also behind the iconic Breaking Bad, has teamed up with Kim Wexler actress Rhea Seehorn for his latest series, Pluribus.

Details on the series, which is released on Apple TV+ on November 9, have been kept almost completely under wraps but it is said to follow a miserable author who heads to Albuquerque, New Mexico on a stop during her latest book tour.

However, she realizes that everyone has caught a mysterious virus, causing them to be overwhelmingly happy – symptoms she was bizarrely immune from – and she sets out to find answers and somehow save the world from the joyous apocalypse.

In a new interview, Rhea opened up about staying tight-lipped about the upcoming project, insisting that even her family are in the dark.

‘It’s so difficult! I am so excited to start talking to anyone who has seen it,’ she told Polygon. ‘I think one of the coolest things about this show is, it’s not just genre-bending, it’s genre-defying.

‘It’s the kind of show that, even if I wasn’t in it, it would be my type of show, because it engenders conversations about, “What do you think about that? What would your position be, should you find yourself here?”

‘But also, I tell people, it’s hilariously funny. It takes you on a real journey, and you feel like an active participant as a viewer. You keep thinking you know what the show is, and it’s not that.’

As well as some of the same writers, the creator and Rhea, the show does have a very familiar backdrop as it is also set in Albuquerque, the city that famously housed both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

Unpacking the similarities between her two characters, the actress continued: ‘They’re mostly very different. Carol has no poker face whatsoever. Even when she thinks she’s not displaying her emotions, it’s mostly just a scowl she just cannot cover.

‘Kim Wexler was extraordinarily tightly controlled in what she let people know about what she’s thinking. Carol can keep a secret. I suppose that’s a similarity. They both have a set of rules and ethics for themselves that are very hard to shake, if not completely unshakable. They really want to follow their moral compass, even when other people tell them they’re wrong.

‘I think Kim would be embarrassed to say she’d like to be the hero when people need her, but she does want to be. Carol is the ultimate reluctant hero.

‘She absolutely, at all times, until there’s no other stone to overturn, wishes she could be the follower. She’s like, “I just totally hope somebody else is going to take the lead in this and tell me what I should be doing, and nobody will!”’

Although the interview gave very little away, fans went into overdrive over Rhea’s comments and flocked to social media to share their thoughts on Vince’s latest creation.

Reddit user Upbeat_Tension_8077 penned: ‘Aside from Vince’s work with Rhea on BCS, just the fact that it’s briefly mentioned that this is genre-bending or “genre-defying” is already enough to hook me into wanting to see what Pluribus will be like.’

Ionertia replied: ‘I just got goosebumps. And they barely say anything.’

As Itsatumbleweed raved: ‘I don’t know if I’m more excited for more Vince or more Rhea. Fortunately I don’t have to choose.’

Unpacking the recent teaser, Reddit user BRiNk9 cheered: ‘This is a 100% watch for me. Even if it dropped out of nowhere, I’d be there day one. Anything by Gilligan.. I’m in, no questions asked. He’s made two of my all time favorite shows, so he’s more than earned that loyalty.

‘And Rhea Seehorn is top notch actress so all the more better. Meet y’all on November 7. Also there are 9 episodes ooowwee.’

SexualToasters added: ‘I am incredibly excited. I didn’t know the show had an official title till now let alone a release date. And after going to Wikipedia I see that the writers have been announced as well and that has me pumped.

‘Only two names I don’t know, and the other four writers are coming from Better Call Saul. F**k. This is gonna be good.’

Vince first got the idea for Pluribus while he was working on the Breaking Bad spin-off, where we were first introduced to Kim and co, meaning the show has been a long time in the making.

‘The drama of the show is that the world’s most miserable person is desperately trying to save the planet from happiness,’ he teased to Entertainment Weekly. ‘There’s a surprising amount of drama that we’re mining from that.’

Rhea will star opposite Karolina Wydra, Carlos Manuel Vesga, Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte.

The series is already expected to be a hit, as Apple TV+ bosses have already picked it up for a second season, months before the pilot has even hit our screens.

Teasing whether or not there are any further connections to either Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, Vince instructed viewers to have their wits about them while watching.

‘There might be a couple [of Easter eggs] if you keep your eyes and ears peeled,’ he added.

‘Fans of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, if they pay close attention, they might come upon an Easter egg or two.’

Pluribus premieres on Apple TV+ on November 9.
