Two people were killed in a plane crash while landing at Hong Kong Airport news

Two people were killed after a cargo plane collided with a ground vehicle while landing in Hong Kong before veering off the runway and sinking into the sea at dawn on Monday, police said.

The authorities said that two men riding in the ground vehicle, aged 30 and 41, were confirmed dead, adding that the airport’s northern runway was temporarily closed.

The Hong Kong International Airport operating company announced that a cargo plane coming from Dubai deviated from the runway and fell into the sea while landing at the airport.

Pictures taken after the accident showed a Boeing 747 cargo plane bearing the Air Act logo partially submerged in water near the airport’s sea barrier, with the escape hatch opened and the nose of the plane separated from the tail.

Hong Kong Airport said in a statement that the four crew members on board the plane were rescued. The South China Morning Post reported, citing police, that two people who were inside a ground vehicle near the airport runway, believed to have been struck by the plane, were killed.

Emirates Airlines said in a statement that flight AK 9788 was damaged when it landed in Hong Kong today, and it was a cargo plane chartered from the Air Act airline that operates it.

Emirates Airlines added that the safety of the crew had been confirmed, and that there was no cargo on board the plane.

Air Act is a Turkish company that provides additional cargo capacity to major airlines.
