Pete Davidson and Colin Jost joined forces on a business venture that has gone nowhere. The two SNL stars went in on a Staten Island Ferry project that has cost them thousands in monthly docking fees for an unused ferry, and they owe unpaid money to a law firm.
In January 2022, Jost, Davidson, and their partner Paula Italia bought a retired Staten Island ferry at auction for $280,000.
They planned to convert the ferry into a floating entertainment venue with live comedy, music, art, and even restaurants. The plans also included hotel rooms, a concert hall, and six bars.
Since then, the ferry has done nothing but remain docked in the New York City harbor. According to the New York Post, Davidson and Jost are estimated to be paying $10,000 a month in docking fees.
That’s not all, alongside monthly fees, the duo and their partner were sued by the law firm Nicoletti, Hornig Namazi Eckert & Sheehan. They allegedly claim the three partners still owe them $13,500 for assisting them.
“No response to the lawsuit to date, and we have not received payment,” stated the law firm.
It appears that the ferry, which they renamed Titanic 2, isn’t planning to venture out into the water anytime soon. Both Davidson and Jost have joked about the unplanned reality of their purchase, with Jost having called it “absolutely the dumbest and least thought-through purchase I’ve ever made in my life.”
The SNL star revealed there are a lot of decisions that had to be made right away after having purchased the ferry. He joked on Late Night with Seth Meyers over the complexity of getting insurance for a “deathtrap” boat when it’s called Titanic 2.
For now, it appears both Davidson and Jost are taking their time, with the shipyard owner having stated they’ve made progress and “things take time.”
