Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Win has already proven too much for two contestants as they dramatically withdrew within just the opening episode.

S Club star Hannah Spearritt and TV dancer Louie Spence bowed out of the high-intensity reality series, which puts 14 celebrity recruits to the test as they undergo a gruelling military bootcamp.

Guided through the tasks by hardened chief instructor Billy Billingham, who plunged the famed faces straight into action as they were forced to plunge 26ft into the water and dash towards a speedboat to pick them up.

This proved our first celebrity’s undoing as Hannah, looking visibly ill ahead of the second task, handed in her armband to the directing staff with the morose statement: ‘I’m done, I’m sorry, I’ve reached a point.’

In the scene straight after, the show aired a pre-recorded clip of the singer who had declared she ‘wouldn’t go on the first day’ as she ‘wouldn’t forgive myself’.

Following hot on her heels was Louie, for whom the second task – to rescue three hostages from a building before blowing it up with a grenade – pushed him a step too far.

Known for his Sky TV series, Pineapple Dance Studios, Louie reached his breaking point after detonating his grenade with two hostages still inside the building, telling the directing staff he wished to withdraw.

‘I want to do an immediate withdrawal, I just don’t have the conviction, and I feel as though I’m not dedicated enough,’ he explained.

And when it was pointed out he ‘hadn’t even started yet’, replied ‘that’s what I mean’ before rejecting a second chance to put his armband back on.

Ahead of the show, Louie was asked why he wanted to participate in the show, replying: ‘I was feeling really mentally strong, and I thought it’d be a great challenge.

‘So really, it was just a thing to challenge myself mentally. I’ve watched the show before, I’ve dipped in and out, and like most people, when I’ve watched it, you think you can do it. But it’s different when you get there!’

There is still a while cohort of celebrities left in the show to tackle to challenges ahead, including former model Rebecca Loos who is grilled on her alleged affair with Sir David Beckham in an interrogation about why she wants to be on the show.

Elsewhere, Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon Boulash spoke about being a queer person in Norfolk, while Watford striker Troy Deeney opened up about the abuse he faced in his childhood and how it has shaped his life.

Airing across eight one-hour episodes, the seventh series of Celebrity SAS can be streamed or watched live every Sunday and Monday on Channel 4, starting on August 3.
