Uber clarified that its drivers cannot be detained by authorities in the federal airport zone while the amparo trial is resolved.
Mexico City, September 27 (However).- A federal judge today granted a definitive suspension a Uber that will allow the company to operate in all airports of the country, so the arrests a drivers of this application taxi service will be considered illegal.
“A federal judge confirmed, through a definitive suspension, what Uber has maintained for more than a decade: it is illegal to detain drivers who make trips through the Uber platform when they are dropping off or picking up users at Mexican airports,” the company said in a statement.
In the text, the company specifies that the suspension only applies to those who are taking a trip with Uber at any of the 70 airports in the country, thereby confirming the certainty to its workers that they will not be able to be detained if a user requests a trip to or from an air terminal.

To defend its corporate interests, Uber trusts that the suspension granted will conclude the legal procedure in a final resolution that reinforces what was granted by the Judge.
“Uber trusts that this suspension will be settled in a final resolution, taking into account the context in which the country’s airports are located at this time: next year the soccer World Cup will be held in Mexico and it is of utmost importance that we show our best face to the millions of tourists that we will receive during the most important sporting event on the planet,” he justified.
After the judicial appeal was granted, Uber urged the federal authorities to bring the suspension to fruition through legislative actions that improve the transportation service environment for national and international tourism and to reaffirm the right “of the platforms to have access to federal airports to make mobility more efficient in those spaces that are Mexico’s letter of introduction to the world,” Uber stated in the statement.
Last July, the digital platform announced the official launch of its new Uber Reserve service, which allows national and international tourists visiting Cancun to book a trip with a taxi-type vehicle from the Cancun International Airport.
“Cancun is our letter of introduction to much of the world, and that is why we want all tourists who come to have the best possible experience with us,” explained Juan Pablo Eiroa, general director of Uber Mexico.
According to the company, the reservation scheme works in a simple way, users only have to enter their flight number and the date of the trip in the application. Thus, once they land, they only have to confirm with a click within the application that they are ready to leave.
