Ugandan nationals arrested in Limpopo for alleged ‘prophetic’ scam

Police in Limpopo have arrested three Ugandan nationals, aged 32 to 37, for allegedly running a “prophetic” scam in Polokwane.

The suspects allegedly used counterfeit money and rats to deceive community members.

The Provincial Tracking Team acted on intelligence about individuals soliciting money from residents under false spiritual pretences.

Officers apprehended the men on Wednesday at a residence in Penina Park. None of the suspects had valid passports.

Evidence used in the scam was recovered

Police seized an undisclosed amount of counterfeit money and five rats during the raid, using them to trick victims.

Police immediately arrested the men at the scene.

Suspects to Face Court

The trio, posing as prophets or spiritual healers promising miracles, financial breakthroughs, and healing for money, will appear soon in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.

They face charges related to possession of counterfeit money and violations of the Immigration Act, with further fraud-related charges possible as investigations continue.
