United Nations: Those besieged in El Fasher face horrific conditions news

The United Nations warned today, Friday, of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions of civilians who have been trapped for nearly 500 days in the city of El Fasher, the capital of the northern state. Darfur Southwestern Sudan.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs explained that the besieged civilians face humanitarian conditions that the United Nations described as horrific, noting that the population was left without food, water, and basic necessities to survive.

The UN office called on all parties to immediately and safely allow the entry of humanitarian aid. He announced that he had received reports of serious violations and the commission of many crimes during the Rapid Support Forces’ control of the cities of El Fasher and Bara.

The UN office said that it had received horrific accounts of field executions, mass killings, rape, attacks against humanitarian workers, and forced displacement.

He added that communications were cut off from the entire city of El Fasher, and that the situation on the ground there was very chaotic. The UN office also called for independent, prompt, transparent and comprehensive investigations into all these violations and for those responsible to be held accountable.

According to United Nations estimates, about 36,000 civilians have fled El Fasher since last Sunday due to the battles that broke out between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army, and many of them headed to the city of Tawila, which originally housed about 650,000 displaced people.

Three days ago, the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said that the assessment of the leadership in El Fasher was to leave the city because of the systematic destruction it had been subjected to, a day after the Rapid Support Forces announced their control of El Fasher.
