United Way’s ‘Stuff The Bus’ continues its annual drive

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)- ‘NewsChannel 6’ our ‘Giving Your Best’ partners and the ‘United Way’ are helping students as the new school year begins.

There are a few chances to help with the annual “Stuff The Bus” collection drive.

Newschannel 6 is asking for all types of school supplies, from basics like backpacks to more expensive items like calculators and headphones.

The United Way will disperse the items to the counties they serve and then they’ll go to the schools.

The teachers will hand out supplies to students that need them.

The president and CEO for United Way says this helps families in a big way.

“About 50% of our families are struggling in some way. And school supplies typically are not in the budget. For many of these families. And so this effort ensures that kids have supplies that they all need. That very first day of school, so they are prepared and ready to learn,” said Brittany Burnett.

Burnett also said, “Especially have a need for youth like elementary age backpacks. And then we also have some items that tend to be a little more expensive calculators, earbuds and over the head headphones are items that typically aren’t purchased. But we have high need for those.”

School supplies can be dropped off today at the Kroc Center on Broad Street from 8am until noon, and tomorrow collections will take place at Walmart in Waynesboro from 9am until 12pm.
