Unreleased ‘Madame Web’ Photos of Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor Have Apparently Leaked

Is this the version of Madame Web that actually would have been amazing? A new series of social media posts has revealed what are, apparently, unreleased photos of Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor in the Sony/Marvel film, in costume as their characters, Julia Cornwall/Spider-Woman, Anya Corazón, and Mattie Franklin. And although it’s unclear if these photos are real — or the result of internet fakery — the pics do suggest that yes, a movie in which these women actually looked like superheroes might have been preferable to what we got.

On August 27, Superhero Hype posted the photos, which first surfaced on X. The story was later picked up by Yahoo and has since been more widely. It also appears that the original photos on X have been removed.

However, several copies of the photos have since popped up on X and Instagram.

Fans overwhelmingly approve of the leaked Madame Web photos

Several users on social media have chimmed in on the leaked photos, and most of the reactions are a combination of praise and also, frustration that these costumes, and by extension, these heroes, weren’t actually seen in the movie for very long.

“The fact that these costumes only appear for like 10 seconds in Madame Web is kinda diabolical,” wrote PridefulSin on X. Meanwhile, a film critic known as MoviesThatMaher pointed out: “I’ll always wonder why Sony witnessed this with their own eyes and chose not to have them in the suits for the entire film. It looks so good.”

Madame Web‘s Rotten Tomatoes score is still appalling

In case you missed the actual movie in 2024, these three actresses only appear in these costumes in a brief flash-forward of the future. In the present tense of the movie, they do not become these spider-themed superheroes. This fact, along with clunky dialogue and a nonsensical plot, resulted in overwhelmingly negative reviews for Madame Web. Currently, the movie holds a 10 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

That said, its audience score is somewhat more generous at 53 percent. Could a version of the movie in which characters were in cool costumes have been even more well-liked? In this timeline, we’ll never know.

Madame Web streams on Netflix.
