Urban Meyer Breaks His Silence on Sherrone Moore Situation

The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines have one of the fiercest rivalries in all of sports, but legendary Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was able to put that aside when discussing the Sherrone Moore situation this week.

On Wednesday night, the University of Michigan announced the abrupt dismissal of head football coach Sherrone Moore, citing “credible evidence” of an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.” Not long after, Moore was arrested after allegedly breaking into the home of that staff member and threatening violence against himself.

Meyer, who won a national championship as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2014, is obviously on the other side of the football rivalry. However, he was quick to show some compassion this week.

Sherrone Moore Fired, Arrested

Michigan publicly announced Moore’s dismissal on Wednesday afternoon, issuing a formal statement revealing that he had been terminated “with cause” after the university found “credible evidence” of what it described as an “inappropriate relationship” involving a staff member.

Soon after news of his firing surfaced, Moore was taken into police custody “for investigation into potential charges” connected to an alleged assault.

While police did not offer many details, one prominent Michigan reporter shared some chilling details, reporting that Moore entered the former employee’s home and threatened violence against her and himself.

On Friday, Moore was officially charged with third-degree felony home invasion, as well as misdemeanor counts of stalking and of breaking and entering

Urban Meyer Addresses the Situation

During the most recent episode of his podcast The Triple Option, Fox Sports college football analyst and three-time national champion head coach Urban Meyer broke his silence on the situation, which has become the biggest story in college football days before the start of the College Football Playoff.

Meyer offered prayers for the family and acknowledged that some things are bigger than football.

“Yeah, last night I said a prayer for that family,” Meyer said on the podcast via Awful Announcing. “I mean, you got three little girls, you got a guy that was on top of the road a week ago. You know, they find a way, they’re up 6-0 on the Buckeyes at home, and then also you wake up and they’re in this situation. Yeah, rivalries aside, this is all human element. Now, this is something that, from what you read, that’s some serious stuff that went on. And I just all of a sudden, you start seeing the impact. Forget football. Who cares about football?

“I care about those three, you know, his family. So prayers are with them. Hopefully, this thing somehow gets cleaner and better, which I don’t know how it will for a while, but you just care about that family.”

Obviously, Ohio State and Michigan have a fierce rivalry, but it’s clear that situations like this trump that rivalry.
