Aldi has issued an urgent ‘do not eat’ warning for a popular snack due to possible traces of nuts.

Dairyfine Crispy Choc Ums have been withdrawn from shelves as they may contain peanuts, which are not listed as an ingredient in the chocolates.

Customers who have purchased packs should not eat them and instead return to the store where it was bought for a full refund.

The recall affects all 121g bags with all use by dates.

The chocolates presented a ‘possible health risk’ to those suffering from peanut allergies, the Food Standards Agency said.

In a statement, the German discounter said: ‘As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling Dairyfine Crispy Choc Um’s because it
may contain peanuts.

‘Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.

‘We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.’

Peanut allergies affect approximately one in 50 children and one in 200 adults in the UK, with the condition increasing in prevalence in recent decades, according to charity Allergy UK.
