For the second time in the decade, the Uruguayan writer Fernanda Trias (Montevideo, 1976) was unanimously chosen winner of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Literature Prize 2025now for his novel the mount of furies.
The jury, made up of Giselle Etcheverry, Patricia Córdova Abundis and Julián Herbert, awarded this award to the author of pink dirt for being “a novel that is rooted in the Latin American narrative tradition, reconfiguring it through an exceptional female point of view full of findings and nuances”.

After stating in a statement “its eccentric characters, who are vivid and endearing“, the experts highlighted “the rhythm of poetic language” that “generates memorable atmospheres and scenes” in the novel.
“The hermit life of a woman, her stark vision of eroticism and the irruption on her stage of sinister human violence serve as the framework for a story that reconciles female genealogies with the invisibility of workthe ruin of the urban with the longing for the rural world, the joy of solitude with the drive of desire,” the jury stated in the minutes.
Who is Fernanda Trías?
Fernanda Trías was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in October 1976, but has lived in Bogotá, Colombia for ten years.
24 years ago, in 2001, he published his debut work, The roofwith Editorial Trilce. Later it would also be published by Hum, Penguin Random House and in Mexico by the independent publisher Dharma Books.
A year later he jumped onto the news tables with One-eye notebook. Afterwards he has been publishing the novels The invincible city (2014), pink dirt (2021) and the novel now winner of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize 2025.

He also published the story books The return (2012) y You will not dream flowers (2016), then nominated for the Gabriel García Márquez Hispanic American Short Story Prize.
In addition to being a double winner of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize for Literature, awarded by the International Book Fair (FIL) of Guadalajara, she has been recognized with the UNESCO Aschberg Scholarship, the National Culture Prize of the Bank Boston Foundation and the Prize for Latin American writers organized by Revista Eñem Casa de Velázquez and the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB).
