This Saturday (1 November) Benfica beat Vitória de Guimarães, 3-0, in the 10th round of the I Football League, and continues to chase the leading duo, one point behind FC Porto, with one game less, and Sporting.
In Guimarães, the ‘reds’ took the lead with a goal from Tomás Araújo, in the 53rd minute, and extended the advantage in the 62nd minute, through Swede Samuel Dahl, and in the 87th minute, through João Rego, at a time when the Guimarães team were already playing with one less due to the expulsion of Spaniard Blanco, in the 56th minute.
For Tomás Araújo it was his first goal this season. For Dahl, the debut was even more impactful: the first goal of his career. Finally, João Rego also scored his first goal in the main Portuguese league, after nine games for Benfica.
With this triumph, Benfica, which recorded its second consecutive victory in the championship and the third in all competitions (Arouca, Tondela and Vit. Guimarães), now has 24 points, one less than FC Porto, which hosts Sporting de Braga on Sunday, and Sporting, which already beat Alverca on the day, while Vitória de Guimarães recorded its second consecutive defeat and remains in 11th, with 11.
