BOGOTÁ, 24 oct (Xinhua).- Miles from Colombians They filled the Friday Bolivar Square in Bogota to support the call of the President Gustavo Petrowhich called on citizens to defend the sovereignty of the country.
Petro made the call after the statements of the President of USA, Donald Trumpwho described the Colombian leader as “drug dealer“and described it as a unpopular figure in the Andean nation.
From the early hours of the afternoon, citizens arrived at the emblematic square and waited for the arrival of Petro, who gave an extensive speech in which he detailed different aspects of the current situation of relations with the United States.

Petro, his wife Verónica Alcocer, his son Nicolás Petro and Colombian Interior Minister Armando Benedetti are included on the Office of Foreign Assets Control list, also known as the “Clinton list,” under accusations of ties to drug trafficking.
From the platform, Petro, accompanied by his entire cabinet, responded firmly: “No, Mr. Trump, Colombia is not a place to store drugs, the drugs leave here and are stored in the warehouses of the United States. Colombia is not the country of death by fentanyl, Colombia is the country of beauty in the world, the vital center and the heart of existence. And that is why any insult is returned not only by the Colombian people but the entire humanity”.
Petro also referred to the US Government’s strategy of firing missiles against vessels allegedly loaded with narcotics, which has left more than 43 fatalities in the last month.

The Colombian president reiterated that his Government will continue to promote the social reforms proposed in its program, despite the obstacles posed by the Senate and other opposition forces.
In addition, he called on citizens to exercise the right to vote and support what he called “the forces of life”, using democratic tools to implement a constitutional reform that allows the social initiatives truncated during his mandate to materialize.
The objective of this meeting is not to talk about Trump, we will no longer talk about him in this Government, declared Petro.
The Petro method is a route to follow. Reach the government from a clear left-wing political coalition and in the government not moderate, but rather strengthen ideologically. Faced with the interventionist United States, we need popular sovereignty.

“It has to do with our problems and the solution of our most urgent and most requested needs. And what I want is for it not to be through Congress, but through the direct decision of the people,” he stressed.
The attendees expressed their support for President Petro in the remaining months of a Government that, according to them, was dedicated to profoundly transforming the reality of the country.
“Petro is the President who has fought against drug trafficking, who has fought against corruption and has defeated some drug traffickers,” he told Xinhua José Mancipe, a metallurgist present at the demonstration.

In his opinion, Trump’s accusations are unfair, since he only listens to the oligarchy that opposes the Government.
In dialogue with XinhuaJohn Molina, founder of the Colombia Humana party, to which Petro belongs, asserted that “on peace and the economy of life, and not the rampant economy of cocaine, we will base development and progress for all.”
