Virgin Atlantic has released a statement after a customer claimed the toilet of a plane was emptied onto bags. A TikTok video has been shared which appears to show dirtied cases going around the conveyor belt at the airport.
However, in a statement provided exclusively to The Tab, Virgin Atlantic has said this wasn’t exactly the situation. It admitted the cases had been dirtied, but the incident happened at the airport, and definitely wasn’t human waste.
Customers on the VS009 flight from London Heathrow to New York JFK on July 14th noticed damage to baggage on arrival at the carousel at JFK.
“You arrive in New York on a Virgin Atlantic flight and they’ve emptied the plane toilet (poo and wee) on your suitcase,” the TikTok said. It added: “It was the worst thing I’ve ever smelled in my life. They didn’t even tell us!!!”. In the comments, the customer also claimed: “They didn’t even make an announcement!! There were children with poo all over them.” The video has now had nearly 3million views.
@sosafoods It was the worst thing I’ve ever smelled in my life. They didn’t even tell us!!! @VirginAtlantic
The damage actually happened in the baggage tunnel at JFK. A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson told The Tab: “We’re aware of a New York JFK system failure that has affected the baggage of a small number of arriving customers. We’re working closely with the team at JFK and local authorities to ensure the issue is resolved. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to affected customers.”
It’s been confirmed to The Tab that all affected customers have been made aware, and advised by authorities on how best to clean their baggage or given the option for baggage to be professionally cleaned by a biohazard team. Customers have also been shared detailed information on how to claim back any damaged items as a result of the incident.
