The recount of votes in the local elections in a section of the parish of São Domingos de Benfica, in Lisbon, It will actually move forward and has a set date, in this case November 4th, Tuesday, from 9 am.
According to the notice made available by the City Council, the recount will be held at the Palace of Justice and will be led by a judicial magistrate.
The Constitutional Court deliberated and in a ruling ordered the “recount of votes from polling station no. 28 of the polling station in the parish of São Domingos de Benfica, in the municipality of Lisbon, in relation to the election for the City Council”after an appeal filed by the CDU.
The communists believe they have a chance of reaching third place in the vote, since they saw votes annulled, being in their favor, bringing them closer to Chega.
André Ventura’s party, which had 11 votes in advance and two elected councilors, presented an appeal to the Constitutional Court on Monday for not agreeing with the ruling. The Court rejected it on the 30th, Thursday, then giving permission for the recount.
Remember that the Ratton Palace also validated a null vote in favor of the CDU, in addition to another null vote that was attributed to Chega, in Santa Maria Maior. At stake is the possibility of the CDU keeping Ana Jara as councilor. João Ferreira is, for now, the elected communist. The CDU, according to the latest counts, was one vote behind Chega.
The entire process affects the inauguration of City Council bodies. Carlos Moedas, who prepares the portfolios with seven other councilors, can only take office when this electoral process is concluded. From what DN could learn, November 11th, Tuesday, is the scheduled day at this stage.
It seems that there will be no repeat vote in Lisbon and the question of the second councilor, for Chega or CDU, will be concluded on Tuesday.
In the municipal elections on October 12, the social democrat Carlos Moedas was re-elected president of the Lisbon City Council, by the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition, with 41.69% of the votes, defeating the socialist Alexandra Leitão (PS/Livre/BE/PAN), who had 33.95%.
