Warm conditions with cloud cover expected in Gauteng – Bundlezy

Warm conditions with cloud cover expected in Gauteng

Gauteng is set for a warm afternoon on 28 August, with partly cloudy skies dominating most areas. Pretoria will reach a high of 28°C, while Johannesburg is forecast at 29°C. Despite the sunshine, isolated showers are expected later in the day.

Forecaster Azwitakadzi Tuwani explained, “We expect partly cloudy skies across Gauteng, with afternoon showers likely in some areas. Johannesburg and Pretoria will remain warm.”

The combination of heat and cloud buildup could fuel localised thundershowers, though the province is not among the highest risk zones for severe storms.

Thunderstorm Warnings in regions near Gauteng

While Gauteng residents will mostly enjoy settled conditions, severe thunderstorms have been forecast in parts of the Northern Cape and Free State. These storms could bring hail and even the possibility of tornadoes.

Tuwani warned, “Umbrellas do not help with severe thunderstorms. People should rather seek shelter in safe areas, as hail and tornadoes are possible.”

Heat Persists Across Limpopo and Mpumalanga

Neighboring Limpopo and Mpumalanga will see soaring temperatures, with Messina reaching 33°C and Polokwane at 31°C. Mbombela and Emalahleni will both peak at 27°C. This regional heat will also influence Gauteng, creating muggy conditions and raising the chance of showers.

Tuwani highlighted the importance of hydration: “We are expecting high temperatures in the interior. People should drink plenty of water and take care in the afternoon heat.”

With these conditions, residents across Gauteng should prepare for a hot, partly cloudy day with a chance of evening rainfall.

Do you think Gauteng is adequately prepared for sudden thunderstorms that can develop from these warm, cloudy conditions?
