A group of Afrikaners are calling on fellow South Africans to sign a petition disassociating themselves from comments made by US President Donald Trump.
This follows a recent open letter titled “Not in our name,” which they believe debunks the narrative of a “white genocide” and “racial persecution” in the country.
Earlier in the year, Trump signed an executive order granting refugee status to minority South African groups, particularly white Afrikaner farmers.
AFRIKANERS CALL ON SOUTH AFRICANS TO SIGN PETITION
This week, the group of Afrikaner professionals who signed the “No in our name” open letter to US President Donald Trump called on ordinary South Africans to back their initiative.
The petition read: “We, Afrikaners who believe in justice, truth, and reconciliation, hereby declare that we are not part of, nor do we align our identity with, any movement that promotes racism, exclusion, or extremism.

“We stand for an inclusive South Africa in which the dignity of every person is recognised.
Referring to Trump’s resettlement programme, it added: “We are not refugees. We reject the narrative that portrays Afrikaners as victims of racist persecution in post-apartheid South Africa”.
ANOTHER GAINS MOMENTUM
Meanwhile, another petition started by former DA MP, Renaldo Gouws – who is now a member of the Freedom Front Plus – is also gaining momentum.
Unlike the “Not in our name” open letter, Gouws’ Change.org petition counters the claims that Afrikaners and white South Africans are not persecuted.
In it, Gouws thanked President Trump for establishing the resettlement programme offering refugee status to Afrikaners and other racial minorities.
He wrote: “By aiming to resettle minorities from our community, you save lives, enrich America with our indomitable work ethic, and model true humanitarianism.
“We welcome this program with open arms and hearts full of thanks.
“Together, we will build bridges over the chasms of history”.
The petition has almost 6 000 signatures.
