In case you missed the memo, McDonald’s UK is currently serving up several ‘secret’ menu items, like the Surf N’ Turf burger and Espresso Milkshake.
To celebrate these ‘hacks’ becoming a reality, the fast food chain recently held an event where it showcased several other weird and wonderful creations that didn’t make the cut.
This included the Crunchy McDouble (a Cheeseburger with Chicken McNuggets and BBQ Sauce), as well as a hash brown sandwich that had my eyebrows shooting up into my hairline.
The reason it was so controversial? It combines two items that should never be eaten together: Hash browns and an Oreo McFlurry.
How to make McDonald’s off-menu Hash Brown Ice Cream Sandwich
Getting the necessary components for this sandwich isn’t the easiest of tasks, as Maccies doesn’t sell ice cream at breakfast time, and you can’t get hash browns when the desserts become available.
To make it, you’ll want to head down to your nearest McDonald’s and order two hash browns before 10:59am.
You’ll then need to wait until the menu switches over for lunch at 11am and make a second order to get the Mini Oreo McFlurry. Your total will be around £4.67.
To create the sandwich, simply spread spoonfuls of your McFlurry over one of the hash browns and then sandwich them both together and dig in as quickly as you can.
What do people think of McDonald’s off-menu hack?
Reviews online for the quirky combo have been mixed, with @grumpynorhternfoodie claiming it ‘weirdly works’.
‘You know what, I would do it again,’ he continued in his Instagram post, confessing that next time he’d switch to a caramel McFlurry instead of the Oreo, as he thinks it would be even better.
Similarly, @winniefoodiemoments thought it was a ‘pretty weird’ combo, but after trying it declared it ‘wasn’t too bad’.

‘I bet this is actually delicious,’ proclaimed @diaryofmisschloe, as others hailed it ‘fun’, ‘amazing’, a ‘guilty pleasure’ and ‘unreal’.
However, not everyone was convinced by the breakfast and dessert pairing as @71_karl commented: ‘Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.’
While a few people on TikTok declared it ‘gross’ and ‘nasty’ and shared gagging emojis.
But how does it actually taste?

Metro’s verdict on the Hash Brown Ice Cream Sandwich…
Anyone who knows me knows I’m always up for trying something a bit wacky. Ketchup on a KitKat? Been there, done that. Punishment Juice? Drank it and lived to tell the tale.
So when I was asked to try a Hash Brown Oreo McFlurry Sandwich, I didn’t even hesitate.
As someone who loves dunking fries in milkshake, this didn’t really seem like that much of a stretch to me. I was convinced I’d be a big fan, but I’m sorry to say it was deeply unpleasant.
McDonald’s says this creation is ‘so wrong it’s right’, but I say it’s just plain wrong. Both items are great separately, but together they just don’t work.
The combo is messy, the flavours are overwhelming, and the overall experience is downright confusing… and not in a way that left me wanting more. I managed a few bites before giving up on the sad, soggy dish, which left me with ice cream dripping down my hands and a strong feeling of regret.
This definitely isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever eaten (punishment juice is still up there), but I wouldn’t bother to make one again – it’s not worth the faff.
