The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning ahead of a cut-off low pressure system expected to bring cloudy, cold, and wet conditions across large parts of the country between Wednesday and Thursday.
According to SAWS, the weather system will impact the central and eastern provinces, including Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, North West, and KwaZulu-Natal, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers predicted.
Snowfall expected
In addition to the rainfall, snowfall is expected over the escarpments of the Eastern Cape and Lesotho, raising the potential for hazardous driving conditions in affected areas.
“Snowfall is also expected over the escarpments of the Eastern Cape and Lesotho,” the weather service confirmed in a statement.
Daytime temperatures could reach zero – or lower – in parts of Mzansi.
SAWS noted that it will continue to monitor the system closely and provide updates as necessary.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions, especially when travelling, as changing weather conditions may affect road safety and visibility.
