WEATHER: Extreme heat and fire warning for these provinces

Make sure to layer on extra sunscreen, as Thursday, 22 January is shaping up to be a hot one in parts of the country. Here’s what you can expect in the North West, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Free State.

NORTH WEST

The northeastern parts of the North West will experience windy and hot conditions, while north-central areas are expected to be very hot.

MAHIKENG

In the provincial capital, Mahikeng, it will be partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers. Temperatures will range between 15°C and 29°C.

KWAZULU-NATAL

The UVB sunburn index in KwaZulu-Natal is expected to be very high. The day will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

DURBAN

Blazing conditions are in store for Durban, with temperatures ranging from a low of 20°C to a high of 31°C.

FREE STATE

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for extremely high fire danger conditions in the southern parts of the Free State.

BLOEMFONTEIN

Bloemfontein will see partly cloudy conditions with isolated showers and thundershowers, with temperatures ranging between 16°C and 31°C.
