WEATHER: First spring showers forecast for Gauteng next week

Gauteng residents can look forward to the first taste of spring rain next week, with forecasters predicting cooler temperatures and the possibility of thunderstorms.

After more than 20 days of hot and dry September weather across much of South Africa, conditions are set to change from Tuesday. According to the latest forecasts, early thunderstorms could roll into the province, marking the long-awaited arrival of spring showers.

Temperatures to drop significantly in Gauteng from Tuesday

For Sunday, expect warm to hot weather conditions in Gauteng and surrounding provinces. According to the SA Weather Service, most areas will reach a maximum of 28 °C with sunny conditions expected for most of the day.

In Pretoria, temperatures are expected to reach a high of 22°C on Tuesday, accompanied by a 60% chance of rain. By Wednesday, residents can expect slightly warmer conditions with a high of 26°C, but showers are still likely with a 30% chance of rain.

Johannesburg is also expected to experience wet weather from Tuesday through to Thursday, with daytime highs dipping into the low 20s for much of the week.

The predicted showers will provide welcome relief after weeks of dry heat, offering a refreshing start to spring for Gauteng.

Weather forecast for Cape Town

According to AccuWeather, Sunday afternoon could see light showers, with highs around 18°C. Monday promises some relief with partly sunny skies and temperatures climbing closer to 20°C.

On Tuesday, early morning showers are possible before skies begin to clear. By mid-week, residents should prepare for strong winds, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday, when highs of 19°C to 22°C are expected.

Despite the sunshine, gusts from the south-easterly breeze will make conditions feel cooler along the coast.
