A Welsh rugby player has joined the graduating class of 2025 at Cardiff University after the country’s Japan tour win.
Teddy Williams, who plays for Wales’ men’s team, has graduated with a BBEng in civil engineering just one week after contributing to the Wales rugby victory in Asia.
The 24-year-old studied full time at Cardiff University in his first year before switching to part time to finish his degree and balance the “rollercoaster life of being a rugby player”.
“My degree offers me a nice back up; if my rugby career were to end with injury and it allows me to plan for life after rugby,” Teddy said.
Listing his most “significant moment” in his time at Cardiff Uni, the recent graduate highlighted submitting his dissertation two weeks after a rugby tour in South Africa, which he said was an “instant weight off my shoulders”.
In regards to the infamous student experience of Cardiff University, the rugby player said that his has not been typical, with Teddy saying: “My main priority has been my rugby career. But I’ve met some good people in my five years.”
The Wales and Cardiff Rugby lock forward added that he is currently “back home and resting up”, after being “lucky enough to travel to amazing places like Japan recently and South Africa” on rugby tours.
When talking about the future of his rugby career, Teddy said that he hopes to move forward, and “continue to progress my rugby”, adding: “Hopefully featuring often for the national side of competing for trophies. So, I hope you’ll see more of me in Cardiff and Wales shirts, but I don’t pick the team!”
