Since the reappearance of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador to present his new book “Greatness”a debate has been opened about his statements, in which he assures that The traditional story of the Conquest was “invented by the conquerors” y distorted for centuries by “oligarchies and colonial interests.”
As reported, the announcement of this new writing took place through a video broadcast from his farm in Palenque, Chiapas, what it marks his first relevant public intervention since leaving office in 2024.
In his message, López Obrador assured that “Greatness” search vindicate the indigenous peoples and offer a different interpretation of pre-Hispanic Mexicodenying elements that dominant historiography has supported for years, such as massive human sacrifices and ritual cannibalism. According to the former president, these practices were “exaggerated or invented” with the purpose of justifying the invasion and subsequent colonization.

However, opposition voices remember that there is physical evidence that refutes the former president’s statements and validates what history has been in Mexico.
An editorial project in two parts
Greatness It is the first volume of a larger project. López Obrador announced that the second volume will be titled “Gloria”scheduled for 2026, in which it will address the political process of contemporary Mexico and the movements that have sought to transform the country.
During his message, the former president also reiterated his support for the current federal administration, although he stated that he remains retired from public life to fulfill his promise not to intervene politically after leaving office.
