Ben Affleck and Matt Damon go way back. Forty-five years, to be exact.
They’re not just best friends. They’re family. Coming up in Boston, the duo formed a bond over their passion for acting and directing. They lived together. Shared a bank account. Even rode the bus together to Manhattan for auditions.
A friendship that’s endured inevitably had moments where they said to each other, “I’m over him.” In a new interview with the Today show, the actors admitted as much, but, as Damon, 55, shared, “In little ways, but never in big ways.”
Craig Melvin wondered what makes the likes of DiNero-Scorsese, Fey-Poehler, and Affleck-Damon friendships work. Affleck, 53, said everyone has a best friend in life, but what makes theirs unique is that they’re in the same line of work, which happens to be in Hollywood under a huge microscope.
Still, they have, at one point, irked each other.
The Truth Is …
During the rapid-fire session, Melvin asked the stars of Netflix’s The Rip what they liked most about each other. Affleck and Damon shared the same answer: they’re both great husbands, great friends, and great human beings.
Then came the next question: the least thing they like about each other.
“[He’s] not great at cleaning up around the house,” Affleck fired.
Damon shot back, “Hey, [that was] when I was younger,” to which Affleck rebutted with, “Well, that’s all I have to go by.”

Affleck also wondered, We could ask your wife and see if it’s gotten better.”
Next was Damon’s turn, and he didn’t need to think long.
“We got here this morning, and Ben was three minutes early,” Damon said. “He got here before me, and that’s the first time in 45 years he has not been late.”
Affleck scoffed at the notion.
“Oh my god, that’s a complete myth,” he said. “I work hard. I’m doing other stuff!”
The Accountant vs. Jason Bourne?
Melvin posed an interesting question halfway through the interview: Who between Affleck’s The Accountant and Damon’s Jason Bourne wins in a fight?
“C’mon, that guy, he’d never see me coming,” Damon said of his titular character in the Bourne series.
“Sounds like a good pitch!” Affleck exclaimed. “It’s like Predator vs. Alien!”
Let the crossover begin.
