Just 32 teams will be left in the Carabao Cup by the end of Wednesday night’s action and they will know who they are facing in the third round of the competition.

The nine Premier League clubs not involved in European competition will join the fray in the third round, along with the 23 winners from round two.

Some Premier League sides have already departed, with West Ham losing to Wolves on Tuesday, while Sunderland were ousted by Huddersfield and Leeds by Sheffield United.

Bournemouth were also downed by Brentford in another all-top flight second round tie.

Newcastle lifted the trophy last season after beating Liverpool in the final, with both coming in at the third round stage as they are in the Champions League this campaign.

The likes of Cambridge United of League Two, who are still in the draw, will be hoping to be handed a meeting with one of the glamour sides from Europe’s top table.

Another League Two side, Grimsby Town, could still join them in the draw if they pull off a massive upset by beating Manchester United on Wednesday night.
