A new era of Coronation Street began on Monday, when Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) and her new family moved into the Rovers Return pub.
Fans of the ITV soap hugely enjoyed the scenes, with some calling it the best episode they’ve seen in years.
Unfortunately, we bring you bad news on this autumnal Wednesday morning. If you were hoping to tune into Corrie tonight to see how Eva and her clan are getting on with life on the cobbles, you’re going to be disappointed.
The show will not be airing tonight, and we bet you can guess why!
Here’s everything you need to know.
Why isn’t Coronation Street on tonight?
Coronation Street won’t be on our screens tonight because football is airing instead. The coverage begins at 7:30pm and is scheduled to finish at 10:20pm, meaning there won’t be any room for Corrie in the schedules.
Gutted actually.
When is Coronation Street returning?
Fortunately, you only have an extra day to wait for Corrie, as the Wednesday episode will air on Thursday instead. It will be broadcasted straight after the one hour episode of Emmerdale, at 8pm.
What happened in Coronation Street on Monday?
Eva Price’s new partner Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) drove her to Weatherfield and surprised her with the news that she was now the Rovers new landlady. As a former resident of the street, Eva was overjoyed to be the next woman running the iconic boozer.
There was a lot of love from fans for the Driscolls, whose takeover of the pub was anything but smooth.
From Eva locking everyone out for a tete-a-tete with her sisters to Ben frantically trying to find the cash to confirm the sale, it was about as chaotic as it could get!
Add to that the surprise reveal that Dee-Dee Bailey’s (Channique Sterling-Brown) boyfriend Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike) was also a Driscoll, and the bombshell that Eva’s mother-in-law Maggie (Pauline McLynn) was the true owner of the pub, it had all the ingredients for an excellent soap episode.
It seems that the classic Corrie feel is set to continue, with Eva set to be involved in an on-going feud with Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon), which producer Kate Brooks compared to the relationship between show legends Eileen Grimshaw and Gail Platt.
Maria was the first cobbles resident to spot Eva back on home turf, and it was safe to say that she was not happy about it.
‘I was so thrilled when Kate said we’d be playing that out,’ actress Catherine Tyldesley enthused as she discussed the continuation of Maria and Eva’s feud. ‘With Maria, Kate referenced Gail and Eileen, which I just absolutely loved.
‘She is a dog with a bone, she will lock onto things in the same way that Maria does.
‘And Eva really loved Aidan, she really loved him. Although she’s moved on and she loves Ben, she finds that very hard to let go of and she loves a grudge, so I think that’s going to be a long-term thing. Don’t let them near any water features, I think!’.
