The paternal family of Jayden-Lee Meek are demanding answers from his mother, Tiffany, who has been arrested in connection with his murder.
The 31-year-old woman made her second appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Friday, 18 July.
In it, she detailed how she was “framed” for her son’s death, which took place two months ago. Tiffany is remanded in custody until her next appearance next week.
JADYEN-LEE MEEK’S UNCLE WANTS ANSWERS
Speaking to the media after Jayden-Lee Meek’s mother, Tiffany made her court appearance, his paternal uncle, Owen Meek – the brother of the boy’s father, Leandro Meek – spoke on behalf of the family.
He said: “We’re standing firm in this trial. We’re going to see it through. Tiffany is married into our family. The dad is not in a good space.
“We’re happy so far with the outcome of that day. Keeping Tiffany behind bars is a very small win for us.”
Meek appeared to the community to direct its anger at Tiffany’s family.
He continued, “Let the law take its course. Let’s not go on what we assume, what we think, and what we feel. We’re putting our confidence in that justice will be served for Jayden.
“We do believe that his mom did love him. We want to know why she did it, and who she did it with…everyone wants answers”.

GRANDMOTHER SAYS DAUGHTER WAS ‘FRAMED’
Meanwhile, Jayden-Lee Meek’s maternal grandmother, Debbie Dunn, claims her daughter is being “framed” for murder.
A week ago, the 31-year-old was arrested, later appearing in court for the first time on Monday. On 14 May, Jayden-Lee’s lifeless body was discovered outside his mother’s apartment in Fleurhof, Johannesburg. Tiffany had reportedly been staying at her mother’s house, and not her own, when the gruesome discovery was made.
Speaking in a TikTok video accompanied by her son, Jayden-Lee’s grandmother claims she was “deeply disappointed” in the police investigation as well as the prosecution of her daughter “over a crime she did not commit”.
Dunn claimed that Tiffany’s family, friends, and attorney were present at court, but they were unable to access the courtroom where she appeared.
She said: “It is so clear that the police, prosecutors, and activists are working together to ensure that Tiffany was not represented in court on her first appearance and that her loved ones were not inside to give her love and support”.
Dunn added: “We hope that she will be given a fair bail hearing and trial. We have lost faith and hope in the criminal system.”
