Why Ed Sheeran Called His Aston Martin the ‘Worst Purchase Ever’

Ed Sheeran may be able to afford multiple Aston Martins, but that doesn’t mean the singer will ever buy another one.

“I bought an Aston Martin DB9 as my first car,” Sheeran, 34, told Complex when asked about his “worst purchase ever.”

“It was a lovely car,” the “Perfect” singer explained. “I was driving back from the studio. And there’s a country lane to get to my house. And I was driving down it, and there was this big puddle, and I was like, ‘I’ll just drive slowly through this puddle.'”

Sheeran — who was born in Halifax, United Kingdom — added, ” I start driving slowly, and then it’s going like this,” showing his hand on a decline. After he saw the water rising to the height of his windows, Sheeran decided to ditch the six-figure luxury vehicle.

“Suddenly it just stops,” he said of the car’s engine. When the car wouldn’t restart, the “Shape of You” artist walked a mile back to his house. “Someone picked it up and I haven’t seen it since. I just left it there.”

“That is why it’s the worst purchase I ever made.”

While Sheeran didn’t specify the year or specs of his vehicle, the British carmaker manufactured the two-door grand tourer car between 2004 and 2016. Throughout the 12 years of production, Aston Martin only manufactured around 16,500 DB9s before discontinuing the model and replacing it with the DB11.
