Timothée Chalamet‘s new movie is already causing a stir with its Rotten Tomatoes score even before audiences have a chance to see it.
The movie Marty Supreme has an almost-perfectRotten Tomatoes score with critics, scoring 96% positive on a 0 to 100% scale as of December 4. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is in theaters on December 25. “Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness,” the caption reads on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Serving up Timothée Chalamet at his most infectiously charismatic, Marty Supreme is a propulsive epic that realizes its sky-high aspirations even while it critiques its indelible hero’s toxic ambition,” the critics’ consensus reads on Rotten Tomatoes.
Reviewers Called Marty Supreme an ‘Uncut Gem’ & ‘Cinematic Strike of Lightning’

A high Rotten Tomatoes score, however, is not unusual for Chalamet, but the reviews of Marty Supreme are filled with superlatives.
“This uncut gem dazzles, from its spotlit table-tennis contests to its dark portrait of American dreams,” wrote Jamie Graham for Empire Online.
“It’s a cinematic strike of lightning that leaves your nerves fried in what is undoubtedly one of the best movies of the year,” wrote Jeff Nelson, of WeHo Times.
“In the pantheon of iconic movie characters, there’s a sure place reserved for the nervy, sublime Marty Supreme,” wrote Prabhot Bains of Range.
“Marty Supreme is a rare film that will become a watershed moment in cinematic history,” wrote Bradley Gibson of Film Threat.
The Trailer for Marty Supreme Has Had 22 Million Views
Directed by Josh Safdie, the comedy/drama clocks in at 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Chalamet’s highest rating on Rotten Tomatoes was for the breakout film Lady Bird, which scored a 99% positive review with critics (although 79% with audiences.)
The trailer for Marty Supreme has had 22 million views in three weeks since dropping on YouTube.
The trailer shows him talking about pursuing his dreams of playing table tennis. “Everything in my life’s falling apart,” he says at one point in the trailer, which also features Gwyneth Paltrow.
“Only Timothée Chalamet can convince me to watch a movie about ping pong,” a fan wrote on the trailer comment thread.
“The color and the cinematography of this movie look absolutely stunning! And my boy Tim knows how to act!” wrote another fan.
“No young actor takes/gets better roles than Chalamet, he said his goal is to be the best and he is well on his way, can’t wait to see this,” added another person.
“Chalamet stars as Marty Mauser, a born hustler and talented ping-pong player, who is loosely based on the real-life American table tennis champion Marty Reisman,” The Hollywood Reporter wrote. According to THR, Chalamet is already getting “Oscar buzz” for the role.
Chalamet told THR that he worked hard to perfect his ping-pong skills. ““I had a table in London while I was making Wonka. On Dune 2, I had a table in Budapest, Jordan. I had a table in Abu Dhabi. I had a table at the Cannes Film Festival for The French Dispatch. I got myself an Airbnb in a town around Saint-Tropez after The French Dispatch, overlooking the water, and I was taking lessons there,” he said.
