Two and a Half Men was a popular sitcom that ultimately had to write off Charlie Sheen’s character. It was largely due to the actor being at the height of his addiction that led him to be fired.
Sheen’s character was replaced by Ashton Kutcher’s billionaire role as Walden Schmidt, and carried on with Jon Cryer and Augustus T. Jones in their leading roles. Despite not having spoken with Sheen after many years, Cryer does appear in Netflix’s two-part documentary series, aka Charlie Sheen.
The actor reveals if he’d be willing to return for a Two and a Half Men reunion and work with Sheen again on-screen.
“It would be wild and I would want to do it,” he said, according to Variety. “I think it would be a gift to the fans…For me personally, it would also put a bookend on it to close that thing how it should have closed.”
The sitcom wrote off Sheen in Season 9, Episode 1, which opens with Charlie’s funeral. It reveals that Charlie was hit by a train in Paris, with the backstory revealing that Rose (Melanie Lynskey) explains he “slipped” after she caught him cheating with another woman. It gave away the idea that she somehow orchestrated his death, but never fully confirmed it.
A reunion with the cast and Sheen would likely involve a form of flashback, keeping in tune with Charlie’s death in the sitcom. There’s also the possibility of opening the door to Charlie having faked his death to get away from Rose.
But a reunion would take some time, as Sheen told People that Cryer was the “only person” he didn’t approach for the documentary. The actor explains he simply didn’t have the right phone number, and later sent him a message to thank him for what he said in the documentary, but didn’t get a response back. Sheen suspected he still had the wrong number.
The documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, premieres on Netflix on September 10.
