Will Fowler, professor and researcher at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, does not qualify who the “bad guys” are in Mexican history; He leaves that to the readers’ discretion, just as he did in his biographical book about the Emperor Maximilian of Habsburg.
On Saturday, the author presented “The bad guys of history. Maximiliano” at the Regional Museum of Anthropology and History “Palacio Cantón.”
Fowler explained that “The Bad Guys of History” is a series created by the Crítica de Planeta label, which seeks to explore historical figures considered “bad” and analyze to what extent these labels are justified or if the context invites us to reconsider them.
“I seek to offer a balanced book. Whether the character is good or bad, I leave that to the readers’ judgment; it is not my intention to judge,” said the author.
He added that his work is historical and biographical, and invited the public to read it.
The presentation was given by Manuel Martín Castillo, retired professor from the Autonomous University of Yucatán, and Iván Franco, from the INA Yucatán Center.
Law teacher María Teresa Vázquez Baqueiro, from the UADY Law School, moderated the activity. During the event, the importance of knowing the history, delving into the characters who played a relevant role and questioning what is written in the books was highlighted.
