It’s been six years since Netflix’s Mindhunter Season 2 was released, with the series announced to go on indefinite hiatus due to the cost of production.
The David Fincher series was later announced to be in talks to continue as movie installments instead of continuing new seasons. Holt McCallany starred in the series as Bill Tench in Mindhunter and gives his two cents on whether he’d return.
“People do ask me that a lot…there’s only one guy that can answer that question. That guy is David Fincher. And David is going to do what David wants to do,” said McCallany to The New York Post.
“I would love to work with him again. And I loved that show. I loved making the show,” the actor added. “If he wanted to bring it back, I would certainly be happy to come back.”
Back in 2022, Jonathan Goff, who played Holden Ford, also expressed that a Mindhunter Season 3 and a Frozen 3 “are equally possible.”
The cast of the Netflix series has openly expressed their desire to reprise their main roles in a third season. McCallany reveals the real hurdle is whether Fincher is on board to create a new installment, with the actor explaining that movie installments are possibly in the works.
“So look, you know, I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it’s just a chance. I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts,” explained McCallany in an interview with Collider.
The actor “would love for it to return,” and felt hope after he met with Fincher. Ultimately, he admits it’s about, “David really having the time and the inclination and being happy, you know, with the material. And, you know, that’s a big question mark.”
Mindhunter follows two FBI aents in the late 70s and early 80s as they travel across the country interveiwing some of the worst serial killers behind bars. They research is in hopes to develop the Behavioral Science Unit to help law enforcement detect killers before its too late.
