Winter Storm Warning Announced as 20 Inches of Snow, Blizzard Conditions Expected

Several states across the Midwest and Great Lakes area are expecting to see significant amounts of snowing reaching up to 20 inches in some locations while blizzard conditions and heavy winds are threatening to make travel impossible.

Blizzard Conditions Expected for much of the Midwest, Great Lakes Area

Not long after receiving an “arctic blast warning” much of the Midwest and Great Lakes is now bracing for another “chipper” system that will bring up to 12 inches of snow and “blizzard conditions.”

“The next clipper will bring snow, ice and wind to the Midwest and Great Lakes Tuesday, shifting east and impacting the Northeast Wednesday, A swath of 3-5 inches looks likely for many with some locations seeing up to a foot of snow. On top of that, wind gusts in excess of 60 mph will be possible, leading to blizzard conditions and power outages in the bitter cold,” the Weather Channel said.

The Buffalo area is expected to be one of the hardest hit, with up to 14 inches of snow and 35 mph winds hitting the area on Wednesday night through Thursday.

Up to 20 Inches of Snow Expected in Wyoming

12 inches of snow might be a luxury for some in Wyoming, who are expecting up to 20 inches of show to fall over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.

“Additional snow accumulations up to 12 to 20 inches across higher peaks in the northern part of the Range, including along Granite Pass. Around 6 to 12 inches across Powder River Pass. 1 to 3 inches of snow possible across the southern part of the Range. Winds gusting as high as 50 to 60 mph,” the announcement from NWS said.

The National Weather Service also issued a travel warning for the area. “Travel could be very difficult across Powder River and Granite Passes. Significant blowing and drifting of snow is possible. Backcountry travel is not advised,” it said.
