A woman was stabbed to death in Romford, east London, in a killing believed to be linked with another death that same day.

Concerns for the welfare of the unnamed woman in her 60s were raised yesterday at around 9pm.

She was found suffering multiple stab wounds at a home in Busy Close, in the Collier Row neighbourhood, before dying at the scene.

A murder investigation has been launched.

Investigators have connected her death with that of a 20-year-old man who died on the train tracks of Romford station earlier that day.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics arrived just after 1.20pm.

The British Transport Police (BTP) is treating the man’s death as non-suspicious, adding that he and the woman knew one another.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke said: ‘Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family at this difficult time as we investigate the circumstances behind this terrible incident.

‘At this stage, we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.’

Detective Superintendent Simon Giles added: ‘I understand that the incident is distressing for the community and we are working closely with our colleagues in the Specialist Crime Command to progress the investigation as quickly as possible.

‘Those in the area today can expect to see our officers and we encourage anyone with any information to speak with them.’

BTP has been approached for comment.
