WSense, an Italian company specializing in ocean technology that provides Internet through underwater Wi-Fi systems, announced the success of an investment round worth 10 million euros.
This investment is led by Indico Capital Partners’ Blue Fund and SIMEST, joining other shareholders such as Fincantieri, Swen Capital, CDP (Cassa Depositi e Prestiti), Rypples, RunwayFBU and Axon.
With this new injection of capital, the Italian scale-up increased the total funds raised to more than 25 million euros.
Founded by Chiara Petrioli, professor of IT engineering at Sapienza University and CEO since 2022, WSense is recognized as a global leader in the creation of underwater wireless monitoring and communication systems.
Chiara Petrioli highlighted the importance of the entry of new investors, stating that “this recognition of the value of our technology and our international growth strategy is fundamental. With the conclusion of this round, WSense’s total funding exceeds 25 million euros, and, with the support of industrial and financial partners, we will accelerate the development of IoT solutions for the energy transition and ocean protection.”

The global underwater sector is expected to reach a market value of €400 billion by 2030, with innovative technological solutions representing more than €30 billion. WSense focuses on the global underwater communications market, estimated at around 10 billion euros annually.
Currently, there are 552 submarine cables covering 1.4 million kilometers, through which 98% of global digital communications, including financial and commercial transactions, are transmitted, according to data from the Italian Navy.
